    About Only Human Therapy

I am a Human Givens Practitioner (Psychotherapist & Counsellor), owner of Only Human Therapy. I currently work privately in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. It is possible to visit clients at home in exceptional circumstances, however one to one sessions are most effective on neutral ground. I currently use two different centre's so we can book whichever is most convenient for you. If it is impracticle to see a client in person, I can do therapy sessions remotely via video applications such as Facetime or Skype.

I have always had a passion for helping and emotionally supporting others. This has been cemented by personal experiences over my lifetime. I suffered from severe Post Natal Depression & Post Partum Psychosis after the birth of my daughter in 2016. I have since been on a journey of recovery and self development. My insight into Depression, Psychosis & Anxiety is invaluable as a Psychotherapist and I am keen to put this to good use in supporting others to overcome such difficulties.

Only Human Therapy aims to provide a solution focused approach to counselling, working closely with each individual or group to specifically tailor the therapy to their emotional needs. Focus is on what the client has, rather than what they don't have. The holistic and integrative approach is firmly based on a scientific understanding of the mind and body, namely the latest findings in Neuroscience. This understanding of how human beings function and what makes us tick, enables us to give hope and better empathise with clients in their time of need.

Statistics show that cases of mental illness are on the increase, although awareness of mental illness has also increased which could partly be responsible. This has however allowed for groundbreaking research into conditions such as Depression, Anxiety and Addictions to take place. These are the most commonly wide spread mental illnesses yet the easiest to treat. The number of people taking Medication for such conditions is also on the increase, yet so are the number of diagnoses', Why? I ask myself. Beacause people are not being treated effectively. The causes are not being identified in order to resolve the said difficulty. Medication is often given before therapy is offered, this is like putting a plaster on a wound. The plaster may cover or mask the wound but not heal it. More specific treatment is needed. Likewise, patients are having to wait long periods, sometimes months, to see a Therapist. For any human being, that is too long to wait to get the right support, tragically for some, it is too late.

I also believe that advances in Technology and Media are adding to the number of mental illness cases. Conditions such as ADHD, Eating Disorders, Anger issues and Insomnia are becoming more prevelant. Of course it has its advantages, I don't dispute that. However, like most things in life it must be used in the right way. What I want, is for people to use the internet productively and not as an opportunity to hide away from the world. Humans are naturally social creatures, we evolved as pack animals, we need 'real' interaction with others to develop mentally and remian sane.

I am trained in powerful, up to date techniques that help neutralise Trauma safely and non-invasively. There is minimal dwelling on the past, unlike some outdated types of therapy, making it more empowering and enabling clients to move forward quickly. I work from a Bio-Psycho-Social model of therapy which helps bring faster results than other schools of therapy. It is in both my own and my clients' interests to have as few sessions as possible. We want to equip you with the skills to support yourself, build resilince and resources for the future, not become dependent on therapy. Human Givens Therapy is based on the idea that every Human Being comes in to the world with a set of emotional needs. When these needs are met in balance, we are emotionally healthy. When they are not met in balance, or not met at all, we become at risk of mental illness. It only takes one emotional need to be out of place, to quickly spiral out of control therefore we are here to educate you about being able to manage this yourself. The good news is, we are also born with resources which are designed to help us get those needs met, therefore we already have within us what it takes to get better, we just need a little help along the way.
